Some sickness in the family and rough night sleep leads to more conceptual design work from last week. Onward and upward for this week as everyone is feeling better!
Last Week
Due to some illness in the family (I think we’re all good now!), I didn’t get much done on my upcoming releases. However, that allowed me time to do more conceptual type thinking, so I researched Mork Borg.
I have big design ideas over the next few years, but I have a lot to learn about game design still – especially around designing large games. One of the best ways to learn is to do research. So I read through Mork Borg for the first time, as a form of research.
WOW. I am not a huge fan of the setting/vibe, but the game doesn’t waste any design space. It treats the reader as a gamer, someone who knows how to play. And it gets to the fun things immediately. There is a lot to learn from this game, and it has already impacted how I approach design and publishing.
This Week
This week, I need to do everything that I was unable to do last week. This includes:
- Finishing my solo Relationship Tracker tool – with a plan to be released Wednesday May 20th.
- Finish enough playtesting for my Fantasy Civ Solo expansion so I can order art
- Restart my Star Solo update process, and begin making progress. The next update/release will come on Free RPG day in June, so I have a little over a month to get that done! I also want to order art for the Ship Sheet, but I’ve struggled to get a response from deck plan artists, or isometric artists. Hit me up if you know someone open to commissions!
