Games bring so much joy to my life, as well as those around me. Whether it is playing The Crew with my parents, Dragonimo with my family, or Dungeons and Dragons with friends – it’s all so fun.
Going into 2024 I wanted to maintain the momentum and excitement that I had in playing games in 2023, as well as play more Solo RPGs. I think I was successful, and overall had a wonderful gaming year in 2024. Here are the games I played over the last year.
Total Tabletop RPG Sessions: 21 (2023 was 30)
I played in fewer RPG sessions this year when compared to last year. There’s one main reason for this – I took a break.
I finished my big group’s Spelljammer campaign in early 2024. This eventually kicked off the 4th Age campaign we just started, but after finishing Spelljammer I needed a few months to relax from the seat of the Dungeon Master.

During this time, I was able to connect with another group, and had a wonderful time through the summer and fall of 2024 playing Dungeons and Dragons as a player, and piloting Kya the Tiefling rogue through all sorts of amazing adventures and challenges.
It was incredible sitting down as a player again, for the first time in close to a decade (unless you count playing Baldur’s Gate 3). I also learned a lot as a player, and was excited in the fall of 2024 to start playing again as a Dungeon Master.
Next year will be great because I’m trying to give myself a new challenge – stop creating your own adventures and encounters, and start playing all the modules you’ve purchased over the years!
Solo RPG Sessions: 11 (2023 was 2)
One of my goals this year was to play more Solo RPGs. Well, I certainly did!
It started in spring of 2024, when I was re-organizing all my RPG materials, and I found an older Dungeon Crawl Classics game that I had completely forgotten about from like, 2016. The premise was I controlled a roster of characters, who were all part of a mercenary company (think The Black Company), who I then generated jobs for through random tables or DCC modules. It was great to rediscover this campaign and play in it again – even though I almost killed the entire company in the final session I played!

I also have made some great progress in my Pendragon campaign, as well as the Ghost of Lion Castle. Finally, I was able to start (again) a Forbidden Lands game, which I am hoping to finish over the holidays.
Board Games Played: 154 (2023 was 98)
The biggest month for me for boardgames is usually December, so this number will certainly still be going up. But I played a lot of boardgames this year.
I have a monthly board game group that I usually get to play more meaty games with. This year we got to Eldritch Horror, Terraforming Mars (again), and quite a bit of Wyrmspan.
I always play a lot of The Crew, and there is a slow and wonderful transition happening with the games I play with my kids – from games like Candyland last year, to games like Dragonimo this year. I also bought into Arkham Horror the Card Game again (since trying it for the first time in 2018), and will probably play 1-2 solo “campaigns” annually with it going forward, as it is incredibly fun!
Finally, I had some really great opportunities to play games with different groups of people this year. I got some new titles to the table, including Camel Up (finally), and Hues and Cues.
Total Video Games Played: 16 (2023 was 20)
2023 was my revitalization year for video games. I got a new PC last year, and had to justify the purchase somehow!
This year was great for video games. I beat the Case of the Golden Idol, and have had some incredible fun with Animal Well and Inscryption. I also played through a few throwback games like Donkey Kong Country, as well as Super Mario 64 (which was a life-saver while we were puppy sitting for a puppy who needed to go outside every day at 4am).
I worked through my backlog and wishlist, and for only the second year in my life (2023 and 2024), I lowered the amount of games in my backlog instead of increasing it.
Games to Play in 2025
It’s a great feeling, being able to experience so many games, in so many different mediums, in a given year. I am filled with gratitude that I have these gaming opportunities.
Looking at 2025, I just want to keep the momentum going. I want to play games I love with people I love. I want to explore new games, both recently published and not, and figure out what makes them fun.
