I’m a bit behind schedule on everything related to PDG. Two weeks ago my kids got sick. Then I got sick all last week, and I’m still recovering. This put me quite a ways behind some family goals for the summer, as well as work responsibilities for my day job.
So I haven’t made much progress on blog articles I’ve wanted to write, games I’ve wanted to play, or game updates (like an upcoming Star Solo update) I scheduled to have complete by now.
I figured this would be a great time to get a few announcements I’ve been meaning to do out of the way. I’m hoping to get back on my regular schedule next week, and begin checking items off my list again.
Youtube Updates
In 2022 I made a big push for my Youtube Channel and by fall, was releasing one video a week. That ended up being a bit too intense for a hobby project for me, and I got burned out by the end of the year.
In 2023 I tried again and was releasing one video a month. However, I found it difficult to get in a rhythm and my videos weren’t seeing the success they were in 2022.
I’m trying again in 2024. This year, my goal is to produce two high quality videos a month with better editing than I’ve done in the past. Interspersed in between these videos, I’m planning on releasing podcasts.
I realized two things. First, that I love the podcast format. And second, that I have soooooo many audio notes from projects I’ve made, games I’ve played, and random musings. I think it would be a good idea (it would for sure be fun for me) to create podcasts in between my videos, using either old audio notes, or creating new podcasts on topics I think deserve more attention.
For example, Pendragon doesn’t have much content around it, and I think it deserves better. Also, podcasts like Behind the Claw are often referenced as the best Traveller podcast, but I have yet to find a true spiritual successor to this epic podcast from a decade ago.
Currently, I’m releasing a podcast about my playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3. The results have been mixed so far, but I’m willing to let the experiment run a bit longer. I have plans to create podcasts around the topics I mentioned above, as well as releasing my old audio notes. I’m just hoping to find a cadence and topics that allow me to create both videos and podcasts, since I enjoy each quite a bit – all the while keeping the balance with this hobby and everything else I find important in my life.
Game Updates
Like I said at the start of the post, the sickness that ran through my family over the last two weeks has really set me back. For Star Solo, I was planning to release a new update (with a new planet – Coronado) two whole weeks ago, but everything got pushed back. If I can stay on top of everything, that update might come out this week. Otherwise it’ll have to wait until next week.
I also have another project I’ve been working on that I hinted at in this post about Dwarf Mine. However, I want to be over halfway done before I start talking about it, so you’ll have to stay tuned on that one.
